Description

78249 Erik Lundberg Vintage Swedish Kilim Rollakan Rug, 05'06 x 08'00.

Erik Lundberg, a Swedish weaver behind the firm Vavaregarden, which translates to Weavers Farm, employed local weavers in Malmo during the 1960s to produce hand-woven flat-weave "rolakan" rugs, though his role as a designer versus businessman remains uncertain. Subsequently, Lundberg's rugs attracted the attention of Svangsta Mattor AB, leading to the acquisition of his firm and its relocation to Eringsboda. Lundberg's daughter, Gertie, joined the company as a designer in the mid-1960s and later became its artistic director. The firm, known for manufacturing rugs and scenic wall-hangings, continues to produce many of Lundberg's designs today, with challenges in determining their age due to ongoing production. Vavaregarden's symbol, resembling a "V," is actually a two-toned T shape inspired by a tree outside the studio window and is woven in colors matching each rug, aiding in identifying the rug's orientation.

This handwoven wool vintage Swedish rollakan rug, known as Model Korall brun, was designed by Erik Lundberg for Vavaregarden in Sweden, emanating warmth and charm. With its bold expressive design and meticulous attention to detail, the rug stands as a captivating example of woven beauty. The abrashed brown field serves as a canvas for an abstract composition of rectilinear shapes, evoking a strong sense of dimensionality and depth. Lundberg's skillful arrangement transforms the organized chaos into an artistic expression, enhancing the rug's visual impact and allure.

Exuding the essence of Scandinavian style, this contemporary kilim rug embodies the timeless charm of Nordic design. Its quilt-like appearance adds to its appeal, offering a sense of comfort and coziness to any space. Perfectly suited for rooms adorned with light wood, organic materials, and neutral color schemes, the rug complements a variety of interior styles. Whether paired with bright whites or monochromatic artworks, its versatility ensures seamless integration into modern living spaces, enhancing the ambiance with its understated elegance.

Designed by Erik Lundberg, this handwoven wool rollakan rug not only enhances the visual aesthetics of a room but also serves as a testament to the enduring allure of traditional craftsmanship. With its captivating design and impeccable weaving techniques, the rug captures the essence of Swedish textile heritage while adding a contemporary twist. Its timeless appeal and versatility make it a cherished addition to any home seeking to evoke a sense of warmth and sophistication.
