With its Scandinavian Modern style, incredible detail and texture, this handwoven wool vintage Swedish rollakan rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The eye-catching geometric design and atmospheric colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly unique look. An allover pattern made up of lozenges within lozenges, diamonds and rhombus shapes work in sequence cultivating a beautiful juxtaposition among the design. This rollakan rug is named Fonstret and was designed by Judith Johansson in 1988. Reminiscent of stained glass Church windows, the ethereal backdrop and the expert use of shading gives the piece a painterly quality reminiscent of watercolors and gouaches. The use of abrash is deliberate; intended to capture nature's capriciousness in the same way sunlight casts shadows.
