Description

76981 Vintage Persian Tabriz Rug, 06'08 x 10'00.

Timeless elegance meets traditional sensibility in this hand knotted wool and silk vintage Persian Tabriz rug. The meticulously ornate details and regal color palette woven into this piece work together creating a look of ultimate luxury. Taking center stage is a concentric lobed medallion anchored with palmette pendants at either end. An allover pattern composed of small-scale Herati motifs cover the navy blue field. Elaborate scalloped spandrels radiate from the corners echoing the medallion design. Is is framed with a traditional Herati border enclosed with a series of floral meander guard bands. With its stately decadence and refined sophistication, this vintage Persian rug is the answer to elevated traditional furnishings.

The geometric Herati design is typically referenced as fish or Mahi pattern. It is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. The Herati motif is widely used in Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath the surface of the water to swim in the full moon’s reflection.
