Description

21747 Vintage Red Boujad Moroccan Rug, 05'05 x 09'01.

Originating from Morocco's Boujad region, Boujad rugs encapsulate the vibrant artistic legacy of Berber tribes, notably the Haouz and Rehamna. These meticulously crafted rugs burst with a kaleidoscope of colors, boasting intricate geometric patterns adorned with symbolic motifs like diamonds and chevrons, each carrying narratives of cultural heritage. Each Boujad rug stands as a distinctive expression of creativity and tradition, treasured for its individual allure and expert craftsmanship. More than mere floor coverings, they serve as captivating embellishments, injecting indoor spaces with vitality and personality.

In this hand knotted wool vintage Boujad Moroccan rug, tribal enchantment and global Boho Chic style converge seamlessly. At the heart of the design, two large-scale Goz eye motifs radiate protection against the evil eye and malevolent forces. Adorning the richly striated red background are Hands on Hips (elibelinde) motifs and cross symbols, adding layers of symbolism and cultural depth. The presence of the star motif signifies happiness, while the cross serves to diminish the influence of the evil glance by dividing it into four pieces.

Derived from the virility symbolized by the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as "hands on hips" or goddess motif, embodies concepts of motherhood and fertility. Conversely, the ram’s horns symbolize masculinity and power, contributing to the rug's multifaceted symbolism. The fertility Bereket motifs further enhance this symbolism by combining elements representing both man and woman, integrating ram's horns and hands-on-hips motifs into a unified design centered around a diamond motif.

This Boujad Moroccan rug is not merely a floor covering but a reflection of cultural narratives and traditions, each motif carrying layers of meaning and significance. Through its intricate design and rich symbolism, the rug invites contemplation and connection with ancient beliefs and rituals. With its fusion of tribal enchantment and global Boho Chic style, this rug serves as a captivating centerpiece that enriches any space with its depth and character.
