This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Kars area rug features five large-scale gul medallions filled with a thick cruciform-cross motif floating in an open abrashed field with robust striations. It is enclosed with jagged edges spandrels and framed with a variation of a Kotchanak border. Perfect for a state room, great room, drawing room, dining room, trophy room, living room, front room, private library, home office, bedroom, dining room, study, studio, sitting room, or lounge area. Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Traditional, Transitional, Amish, Shaker, Minimalist, Organic Modern, Scandinavian Modern, Nordic, Danish Design, Monochromatic Mission, Eclectic, Modern, American Colonial, Contemporary, Industrial, Rustic, Lodge, Cabin, Cottage, Bungalow, Mid-Century Modern, Nomadic, and Tribal. Rendered in variegated shades of golden sand, tan, ecru, flaxen, wheat, khaki, taupe, coffee, chocolate, brown, and beige with accents of gray, rust, sage, and dark green. This is two sections woven together to create one large rug. Tribal weavers in Turkey did not have the space for larger looms. Many of the weavers were nomadic and the old story is that their tents were between four and six feet wide, so the rugs could be no wider than that. To make larger pieces such as this, they would make the two halves separately and then stitch them together. Some buyers assume rugs likes these are two runners that have been joined, but the designs prove otherwise. The seams on these pieces are actually a desirable element for rug collectors and lovers, as they help authenticate the age and production method of the rugs. When considering rugs like these, we always tell customers to consider the seams, the asymmetry, the abrash, the color variation, and other such "imperfections" as part of the charm and joy of authentic vintage and antique Turkish tribal rugs from regions without large production centers. Antique Wash. Abrash. Hand knotted wool. Made in Kars Region of Turkey. Measures: 09'02 x 11'01.
