Ourain Moroccan Rug in Traditional Village Style 06’08 x 09’01 From Esmaili
Rugs Collection. Rugs of the Beni Ourain tribe, one of the seventeen tribes
of the Moroccan Berbers, exhibit simple yet classic designs on a neutral
background. This vintage Moroccan Beni Ourain rug is patterned with a free-form
diamond lattice pattern dotted with fertility symbols in traditional village
style. The allover lozenge pattern can also represent a figurative gate to keep
out the evil spirits. Lacking a written language, the Berber Tribe and Beni
Ourain weavers created pieces rich in symbolism and history to document their
everyday existence. This striking example of a Beni Ourain will add a touch of
nomadic village folk art or Mid-Century Modern style to nearly any space.
