This hand knotted wool vintage indigo Beni M'Guild Moroccan rug features two vertical columns of diamond lattices running the length of the blue field. A series of small diamonds and triangles form the two lattices that unite to resemble an hourglass shape, a traditional reference to the female form. Intersecting angular rods are placed outside and inside the diamond lattice symbolizing protection and meant to capture evil spirits. The two vertical latices are framed by three vertical V-Shape borders composed of three triangles. This Beni Mguild rug is heavily ornamented with diamond shapes, which represent a woman's openness to conceive and the power of womanhood. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs.
