20901 Vintage Berber purple Moroccan Mrirt rug with Tribal style 06'07 x 11'04. Historical richness, whimsical colors, and full of ancient Berber symbolism, this hand knotted wool vintage Beni Mrirt Moroccan rug features traditional symbols of protection, femininity and fertility, and conception. Three quarters of the rug beautifully showcases a diamond trellis pattern composed of smaller diamonds, crosses, and lozenges with three pronged trident trips. The other quarter part of the rug is composed of expanding lozenges, X-shapes and V-shapes. This Beni Mguild rug is heavily ornamented with diamond shapes, which represent a woman's openness to conceive and the power of womanhood. It is framed with eight-point stars symbolizing pregnancy in a chain-link square border along the vertical sides, representing the male's presence. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs. This presentation can be seen as symbolizing fertility, as well as protection and the sanctuary of the family. Blending Primitive charm, ancient symbolism and Folk Art warmth, this vintage Beni M'Guild rug reflects generations of cultural beliefs.
