This hand-knotted wool vintage Persian Heriz rug features a large
serrated octofoil medallion with palmette pendants floating in the center of an
abrashed rosy field. The octagram, or eight-pointed star, is often used as a
medallion design in Heriz rugs. Sometimes referred to as the “Seal of the
Prophets,” the octagram symbolizes faith and spirituality. A variety of
geometric floral motifs surround the medallion in an elaborate display of
palmettes, serrated leaves, buds, blooms, open blossoms, rosettes, and small
leaflets. Serrated corner spandrels echo the designs of the medallion and
field. Delicate rosette guard borders and striped listels flank a stylized
Herati main border with samovar-shaped palmettes. The dark espresso border and
field accents ground and give weight to the lovely rosy pinks and soft blues of
this Heriz rug, while pops of ivory add further dimension and definition to the
design. The unique color palette, lively motifs, and intricate detailing come
together beautifully, making this vintage Heriz rug both elegant and stylish.
Rendered in variegated shades of soft scarlet red, rose, pink, ruby red, brick
red, espresso, coffee, sienna, cerulean, aqua, verdigris, peach, salmon,
