20131 Vintage Berber
Moroccan Rug with Tribal Style, Green Beni Mguild Carpet 06’05 x 12’04 From
Esmaili Rugs Collection. Extraordinarily exceptional, the green abrash
provides the perfect backdrop for the allover diamond trellis and adds a hint
of modern energy. This vintage Beni M'Guild Moroccan rug is rich in Ancient
Berber symbolism, featuring many traditional symbols of femininity and
conception. One diamond is filled with a cruciform motif, known as an equal
armed cross symbolize mating. This green Beni Mguild rug is ornamented with
large diamond shapes, which represent a woman's openness to conceive and the
power of womanhood. Smaller diamonds, when housed inside of larger diamonds, is
known to represent the prediction of a pregnancy. This symbol is referred to as
a "lozenge." The diamonds within diamonds symbolize birth and the
image of a child. Intricate pops of ivory and indigo details break up the blend
of vivacious colors to bring equilibrium to the piece. The bordering pattern of
fused triangles symbolize copulation and incorporates the colors within the
center of the piece, tying the rug together beautifully. Rendered in variegated
shades dark green, green, avocado, celadon, persimmon, pumpkin, gold, blue,
black, coffee, beige, ivory and scarlet red. Hand-knotted wool. Made in
Morocco. Beni M'Guild. Berber Tribes of Morocco. 06'05 x 12'04.
