Beni Ouarain rug features an all-over diamond lattice pattern spread across an
abrashed creamy-beige field. Bold, thick lines with hash marks come together in
a manner creating the lozenge trellis with X-shapes and chevrons, traditional
references to the female form. A zigzag line runs along the vertical sides of
the Moroccan rug creating a border, which represents the male's presence and
protection. Though deceptively simple, this Beni Ourain rug and its motifs hold
a significant place in Moroccan Traditional Design. The tribal symbols of
diamonds, chevrons, and X-shapes present in the central area are usually
