Weathered finesse meets East Turkestan charm in this distressed vintage Turkish Oushak rug. The traditional Khotan design elements and bold colorway woven into this piece work together creating a rustic and refined look. Taking center stage is a prominent round medallion patterned with pomegranates like most carpets from Khotan and East Turkestan. The lovingly time-worn red field hosts a variety of ambiguous motifs and tribal symbols heavily influenced from Chinese, Tibetan, Persian, Turkish and Turkmen designs. Iconic fretwork patterns emanate from the corner spandrels, which complement the prolific symbolism throughout the field. The lovely main border features Ruyi clouds and diagonal striped bands flanked with an inner fretwork guard border. With its depth of meaning, fine attention to detail, and rugged beauty, this stunning distressed Turkish rug would add an artistic statement to nearly any space.
