Description:-

74983 Vintage Swedish Kilim Rollakan Rug with Scandinavian Modern Style 05'03 x 07'11. Featuring a traditional modern design highlighting some of the finest Mid-Century Swedish rugs, this appealing example is influenced by its subtle beauty that is enhanced by its idyllic shades of blue and all-over repetitive geometric motifs. This vintage Swedish Rollakan Kilim was designed by a master weaver in the Mid-20th Century in Scandinavia. Scandinavia is comprised of the three kingdoms Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Scandinavian carpets and rugs have been made in Sweden for centuries, taking on many different forms and functions over the course of time. Rugs woven in the traditional Oriental style were originally brought to Sweden as early as the early Middle Ages through trade routes dating back to the Modern period. In the years that followed, these Swedish rug weavers began incorporating their own themes that were more consistent with cultural heritage of Sweden. Rollakans, a traditional flat-weave, was probably was of the most significant contribution. They were popular among the folk artists and used as bed coverings. These Rollakans are highly sought after in today's marketplace due to their perception as typical Swedish compositions. As preferences evolved from traditional Folk Art to a more serious international phenomenon, designers such as Barbro Nilsson, Marta Maas-Fjetterström, Marianne Richter and Ann-Mari Forsberg transformed a traditional Folk Art to an international phenomenon, while influencing the aesthetic direction of the rug-making world. Swedish rugs from the mid-20th century remain among the most desirable in the modern rug world. Measures: 5'03 x 7'11.
