Description:-
78248 Erik Lundberg Vintage Swedish Rollakan Rug, 04'07 x 06'09.
Erik Lundberg, the Swedish weaver behind Vavaregarden, which translates to Weavers Farm, enlisted local weavers in Malmo, during the 1960s to create hand-woven flat-weave "rolakan" rugs, blurring the distinction between his roles as a designer and a businessman. Eventually, Lundberg's rugs caught the eye of Svangsta Mattor AB, resulting in the acquisition of his firm and its subsequent relocation to Eringsboda. Lundberg's daughter, Gertie, joined the company as a designer in the mid-1960s and later assumed the role of artistic director. Specializing in the production of rugs and scenic wall-hangings, the firm continues to manufacture many of Lundberg's designs, although determining their age poses challenges due to ongoing production. Notably, Vavaregarden's symbol, resembling a "V," is actually a two-toned T shape inspired by a tree outside the studio window and is woven in colors matching each rug, facilitating the identification of the rug's orientation.
Warm and inviting, this handwoven wool Swedish rollakan rug, named Lyckeby (meaning Lucky Town), was intricately crafted by Erik Lundberg for Vavaregarden in Eringsboda, Sweden. Radiating with pops of pastel colors, it serves as a delightful addition to any space. Showcasing an expressive design brimming with incredible detail and texture, this rollakan rug embodies the essence of woven beauty. Against an abrashed brown field, three star-cross motifs take center stage, surrounded by a wide border adorned with large stylized florals arranged in a compartmental design. The rug exudes a charming and almost quilt-like appearance, epitomizing the essence of Scandinavian style and serving as the perfect complement to rooms adorned with light wood, organic materials, and neutral color schemes, as well as spaces featuring bright whites and monochromatic artworks.
Erik Lundberg's "Lyckeby" (Lucky Town) rollakan rug is a stunning example of his skill in blending traditional Swedish weaving techniques with contemporary design. The rug features intricate geometric motifs that symbolize luck and prosperity, meticulously woven to create a harmonious and balanced appearance. Its rich, warm color palette, including deep reds, earthy browns, and golden yellows, is complemented by cooler accents, enhancing the rug's visual appeal and conveying warmth and comfort. Handwoven with precision using natural dyes and traditional methods, the "Lyckeby" rug boasts exceptional craftsmanship, making it both durable and soft underfoot.
The "Lyckeby" rug embodies themes of luck, prosperity, and community, drawing inspiration from the idea of a "lucky town." This design is a testament to Lundberg's ability to revitalize traditional Swedish textile arts with a modern touch, preserving and evolving the rollakan weaving tradition. Versatile in use, the "Lyckeby" rug can serve as a functional floor covering or a decorative wall hanging, adding Scandinavian elegance and cultural heritage to any space. Whether placed in a rustic cabin or a modern home, the "Lyckeby" rug brings warmth and character, making it a cherished piece in any collection.
Erik Lundberg's meticulous craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of this Scandinavian Modern kilim rug, reflecting his dedication to quality and design excellence. The rug's intricate details and captivating patterns speak to Lundberg's artistic vision and skill as a weaver. With its timeless appeal and versatility, this rollakan rug seamlessly integrates into various interior styles, infusing warmth and character into any room it graces. Whether placed in a modern living space or a cozy bedroom, its inviting presence adds depth and charm to the ambiance, enhancing the overall aesthetic with its understated elegance.
As a symbol of Swedish textile heritage and craftsmanship, this handwoven rollakan rug not only serves as a functional floor covering but also tells a story of tradition and artistry. Designed by Erik Lundberg and produced by Vavaregarden, it represents a harmonious blend of classic design elements and contemporary sensibilities.
