This hand-knotted wool antique Persian Heriz rug embodies the commanding artistry of northwest Persia, where village weavers transformed classical Persian garden imagery into a powerful geometric language. An imposing octofoil medallion dominates the saturated red field, anchored at either end by dramatic cloudband pendants and surrounded by an exuberant network of angular florals and foliage. Deep indigo, powder blue, ivory, terracotta, and muted green animate the exceptional composition, creating the richly layered presence that has made historic Heriz carpets coveted among collectors and accomplished interiors.
At the heart of the medallion, a compact rosette radiates outward through serrated leaves, palmettes, lotus-derived blossoms, and rectilinear vines.
