20318 Vintage Berber
Moroccan Boucherouite Rug 03'09 X 07'01 From Esmaili Rugs Collection. The
subtlety of a light blue background allows the bold colors used to ornament the
rug to stand out. The rug is primarily ornamented by large cruciform shapes,
Solomon Star fertility motifs, a flurry of triangles and diamonds. The diamond
carries great symbolism from the culture of the Ancient Berbers. In Ancient
Berber rug-making, the diamond shape is known to represent the prediction of a
pregnancy and invoke the power of femininity and reproduction. Equal armed
crosses and fused triangles symbolize mating. The zigzag border known as a
snake represents the male's presence in this piece. It is common for the male
motifs to frame and/or enclose the female motifs. The vivid colors that overlay
the piece conjure the spirit of Morocco in this Vintage Berber Moroccan
Boucherouite rug. This Berber Boucherouite rug is uniquely woven with recycled
cotton and wool, giving it a colorful bohemian chic style. Boucherouite rugs
