Antique Persian Nahavand Hamadan Rug with Tribal Style From Esmaili Rugs
Collection. This hand-knotted wool antique Persian Nahavand Hamadan rug
features three connected pole medallions with elongated pendants floating on an
abrashed field. The shapes of the medallions each resemble fertility symbols,
as do the half medallions that protrude from the edges towards the center. Each
part of the central composition is decorated with a variety of filler motifs,
including rosettes, crosses, eight-pointed stars, diamonds, and birds. The
motifs variously are meant symbolize fertility, spirituality, and protection. A
classic calyx and leaf border, accompanied by saw-tooth and striped guard
bands, frames the composition. The combination of the onyx field and plum
medallions and spandrels is unusual and striking, while the streak of red
abrash is also quite unexpected. This handsome antique Persian rug would
enhance any space with its bold design. Rendered in variegated shades of plum,
eggplant, coffee, onyx, cerulean blue, taupe, cream, navy blue, stone gray,
ecru, sand, tan, beige, pink and a streak of red abrash. Perfect for a foyer,
