The Boucherouite Azilal rug displays geometric shapes galore, from houses and diamonds to zigzag chevrons to rods. More than the asymmetrical beauty found in the geometric pattern, there is also an element of Ancient Berber culture as well. The chevron pattern has great historical meaning in the history of Moroccan rug-making as a continuation of the range of feminine and reproductive symbolism displayed by Berber carpets. This Berber Moroccan rug’s chevron pattern alludes to a woman’s opened thighs and her readiness for conception.
