Oushak Rug, 03’01 x 03’06.
This hand-knotted wool
vintage Turkish Oushak rug with Boho Tribal Style features a poly-chromatic
field of eight-pointed stars representing happiness in a myriad of colors
arranged in diagonal rows. Small diamonds appear among them throughout a
creamy-beige field. A dark color border surrounds this work of art. The thin
guard stripes display the comb motif, shown here along the bottom of the rug,
is largely related with marriage and birth. It is used to express the desire
for getting married and to protect birth and marriage against evil eye. Also
shown along the top of the rug in the field and set in the stars is the check
motif in a loose configuration, representing protection from the evil eye. A
beautiful little vintage rug imbued with oodles of symbolism, this vegetable
dyed Oushak is capable of a broad variety of successful design applications.
