The bold geometric print and colorful palette woven into this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner work together creating a truly unique look. The abrashed red field features three hooked medallions with ambiguous Anatolian tribal motifs. It is enclosed with a Elibelinde motif border. Though deceptively simple, this vintage Turkish rug is steeped in Anatolian history. Derived from the virility of the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the center.
