Weaving carpets and textiles in Agra dates back to the establishment of the Mogul Empire in the 16th Century, circa 1530. The emperors of the Mogul Empire were deeply influenced by Persian art, culture and carpet weaving – thus introducing “The Golden Age of Persian Weaving”. Agra Rugs are challenging to categorize as they vary in size, composition and design. While some Indian Agra carpets display open fields with smaller medallions and guards, they are also woven with allover designs.
