Description:-

72779 Oversized Antique Persian Isfahan Rug, 10'01 X 20'06.

This antique Persian Isfahan rug, meticulously hand-knotted from wool, showcases the renowned design of the Schwarzenberg Paradise Park carpet. The Schwarzenberg Paradise Park carpet, a luxurious and historically significant masterpiece from the 16th century, originates from Persia (modern-day Iran), celebrated for its intricate design and exquisite craftsmanship, notably featuring a central medallion enveloped by elaborate floral motifs in vibrant colors and fine detail. Named after its residency at the Schwarzenberg Palace in Vienna, Austria, where it was cherished, it stands as one of the prime examples of Persian carpet weaving during the Safavid period, embodying both aesthetic allure and profound historical and cultural significance, symbolizing the rich tradition of Persian carpet weaving and the artistic skill of its craftsmen.

This textile, known as a "Paradise Park" carpet, derives its name from its motifs, including garden and animal imagery, reflecting the Persian concept of an earthly paradise with lush gardens and diverse fauna. These carpets, crafted for the elite of 16th-century Iran, typically feature a central medallion flanked by cartouches and pendants, dividing the carpet into quarters with mirrored imagery, adorned with flowers, vegetation, and wildlife such as leopards, lions, birds, and phoenixes, with ducks in the central medallion and peacocks in the cartouches. The border is adorned with birds, flowers, and cloud band motifs.

Notable examples of similar “Paradise Park” carpets include the Mackay carpet in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Mantes carpet in the Louvre. These carpets stand as enduring symbols of exquisite craftsmanship and artistic mastery from the Safavid period.
