Antique Oushak Rug from Esmaili Rugs Collection: Kars carpets are sometimes referred to as Kars Kazaks; however, the colors are warm and soft compared to true Kazak rugs from Russia. The city of Kars is located in north-eastern Turkey near the Armenian and Georgian borders near Russia with a significant Kurdish population and the center of Azeri culture. Kars is a very old city with a great rug weaving tradition. The design patterns are geometric and are strongly influenced by Armenian and Caucasian styles. This Kars Oushak rug features a triple center medallion with an overall floral geometric design scheme. The spandrels depict scenes from the weaver’s life with various representation of a horse, birds, trees and flowers. The warm palette consists of brown, tan and beige with hints of soft green and delicate lavender along the border. The earthy colors are easy to integrate into modern décor and for those with neutral preferences.
