Maimana Afghan kilim rugs are traditional flat-woven rugs from the Maimana region in Afghanistan, known for their vibrant colors, intricate geometric patterns, and durability. Made from locally sourced wool dyed with natural dyes, these rugs feature bold designs that often reflect the weavers' cultural heritage. The flat weave makes them lightweight and versatile, suitable as floor coverings, wall hangings, or furniture throws. Each rug represents the weaver's skill and tradition, passed down through generations, and they are highly valued for their artistry, craftsmanship, and cultural significance.
Highlighting primitive charm and nomadic tribal vibes, this hand-woven wool vintage Afghan Ghalmouri Maimana Kilim rug beautifully showcases Mid-Century modern style. It features an all-over diamond lattice pattern composed of ancient Afghani protection symbols. A series of stepped lozenges form the main lattice, with the latticework itself composed of smaller diamonds creating an expansion effect. The stepped lozenges come together in a manner resembling hourglasses, a traditional reference to the female form. A crenelated fence guard band and cengal 'hook' guard band enclose the field, traditionally to ward of evil. The outside border is composed of diamond lozenges in alternating colors. Themes of protection in geometric symbols are prevalent in this vintage Afghani kilim rug. This depth of meaning presented in a bold, clean form is what make Afghan Kilim rugs such wonderful additions to nearly any space.
