Mahal Rug, 10’02 x 13’02.
This hand
knotted wool antique Persian Mahal rug possesses a history and patina that only
an authentic antique could, and yet it is also capable of giving its best
performance in the decades to come. Full of character and stately presence with
its dark ink blue field, this antique Persian rug showcases an extravagant
all-over pattern of delicate botanical motifs combined with playful florals
unfolding a well-balanced design scheme. It is enclosed with a red Herati-style
border. Detailed with fine contrasting outlines, every element of the
composition is brought into sharp focus against the midnight navy field. The
variegated shades of ink, navy blue, red, scarlet, crimson, brick red, tan,
ecru, coffee, and beige beautifully contrast, simultaneously creating a sense
of unity and division. The main border and guard bands are equally as
compelling, with the ephemeral color shifts between the colors.
