Description:-
52764 Distressed Antique Chinese Peking Pictorial Rug with Chinoiserie Chintz Style 10'02 x 11'06. This hand-knotted wool distressed antique Chinese Peking rug beautifully embodies a Chinoiserie Chintz style. It features a pictorial landscape scene with a variety of birds and botanical motifs spread across an abrashed field. A variety of asymmetrical flower species bloom from a gnarled tree branch that meanders along the edges of the piece, while an array of auspicious symbols are suspended from the branches. Several vases and baskets of flowers hang from the branches, which are seen to represent Virtue and harmony, along with a tea kettle, representing tranquillity, and a coin, representing prosperity. The ensemble of flowers represented are lotuses, peonies, chrysanthemums, and plum blossoms, which, when appearing together, represent the four seasons. Each of the flowers carries its own meaning in Chinese culture. The lotus, the flower of summer, symbolizes purity and perfection, since its clean vibrant blooms emerge from the mud of swamps and marshes. Peonies, the flower of spring, represent unparalleled beauty and honor, they have long been regarded as a symbol of wealth. Chrysanthemums, the flower of autumn, are associated with long life and a golden retirement, the dried petals of the flower immersed in wine were once thought to bring longevity to those who drank it. Plum blossoms, the flower of winter, represent fortitude and resilience, since the long-lived tree blooms brightly during the cold of winter. Perfect for a living room, bedroom, dining room, private chambers, front room, study, studio, home office, private library, formal sitting room, or lounge area. Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Romantic, Japanese, Ming, Qing, Chinese, Chinoiserie, Asian Antique, Asian Modern, Hollywood Regency, Manor House, Art Deco, Eclectic, Modern, Traditional, Neoclassical, Palladian, Gustavian, Georgian, Art Nouveau, and Colonial Revival.
