  • The History & Origins of Lori Rugs

The Lori people include both settled and historically nomadic or semi-nomadic groups, with Persian carpet designs that often reflect migration patterns and oral storytelling. Each Lori carpet is made by a skilled artisan who has spent years learning classic weaving techniques from their elders and reflects both a personal story and tribal myths. While some Lori pieces entered village or commercial production, the tradition largely remained tribal, giving each handmade rug a distinct, individual character.

  • Design Characteristics of Lori Rugs

Persian Lori rugs are characterized by bold geometric motifs and a sense of spontaneity, reflecting tribal weaving traditions rather than the refined aesthetics of city-made Persian rugs. Some of the most common elements you’ll see include medallions, diamonds, animals, and abstract forms in hues that range from deep reds and earthy browns to brilliant blues and subtle greys. Since these rugs were rarely mass-produced, each piece is a singular, one-of-a-kind creation showcasing the individuality of the artisan behind the design.
