Description:-

73088 Antique Persian Mahal Ziegler Sultanabad Rug 04'04 x 06'05.

Displaying deep blues and warm earth-tone colors inspired by Italy combined with cozy simplicity, this hand-knotted wool antique Persian Mahal Ziegler Sultanabad rug beautifully embodies a modern rustic Italian Cottage style. The weathered abrashed navy blue field is covered with an all-over Herati pattern. The Classic Herati pattern, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. A sawtooth guard stripe encloses the repeating Herati design. The antique Sultanabad rug is enclosed with a geometric botanical border flanked with an inner and outer meander guard band. A simple solid navy blue outer band frames the composition, giving it a sense of order and definition. With its perfectly worn-in charm and understated elegance, this antique Sultanabad rug would bring a sense of nostalgic charm to nearly any interior.

Perfect for a small space, alcove, nook, mudroom, entry, foyer, bedroom, formal sitting area, private library, home office, drawing room, front room, studio, study, loft, or lounge area. Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Italian, Rustic, Artisan, Cabin, Cottage, Industrial, Tudor, Manor House, Victorian, Neoclassical, Jacobean, Traditional, Federal, English, Old World, Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, and Eclectic.

Rendered in variegated shades of midnight, ink blue, navy blue, brown, russet, camel, burnt orange, burnt umber, terra cotta, coffee, sienna, ecru, tan, and sand with other accent colors. This antique Persian Ziegler Mahal rug comes with history. The carpet industry in Iran was mostly driven by European firms. During the late 19th century, 1883, the Manchester, England, based Anglo-Swiss firm of Ziegler & Co. established a factory whose sole objective was to produce Sultanabad rugs and Persian carpets to meet western demands. Western designers modified classical Persian designs, marking the first time westerners directly affected Persian designs (beyond influence through market demand).

  • Late 19th Century. 1880s.
  • Distressed. Desirable Age Wear. Abrash.
  • Hand-knotted wool.
  • Made in Iran.
  • Measures: 04'04 x 06'05.
