Oushak Rug Runner, 04'06 x 10'00.
This hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner features three serrated-edged octagram medallions spread across the centre of an abrashed scarlet red field. The octagram, an eight-pointed star, is sometimes referred to as the Seal of Solomon and is seen to symbolize faith and spirituality. In this piece, the octagram motifs are composed of saw-tooth motif offset squares containing an octagon surrounded by diamonds. Rows of small diamonds in alternating colors make up the corner spandrels, mimicking the geometric designs of the medallions. The main border features a floral meander motif with large open blossoms, while unassuming carnation meander guard borders add a delicate and graceful touch to the design. Two end panels, also known as elem, feature a series of floral lappets in alternating colors that expertly bookend the composition. Based around rich, contrasting shades of red, orange, and midnight blue, the warm color palette makes the simple composition really pop. With its relaxed formality, this handsome vintage Turkish Oushak rug would bring a polished and vibrant sense of style to any interior.
