Oushak runner features large cabbage rose motifs arranged in quatrefoil
bouquets spread across an abrashed field. Adopted by Turkish, Caucasian, and
Persian rug-weavers from European designs, such as those of the Savonnerie rug
workshops in France, the cabbage rose motif depicts a naturalistic overhead
view of large roses in full bloom. In this Oushak runner, cabbage roses are
nestled within large blossoms that are arranged in groups of four, creating a
form reminiscent of open medallions. Curling tendrils, blooms, vines, leaves
and small sprigs surround the quatrefoil lobes. Additional cabbage roses appear
in the corner spandrels. The large main border also repeats the cabbage rose
design in a meander motif, with the roses surrounded by leaves, vines, florets
and small blooms. A simple carnation meander outer border frames the
composition, adding a traditional and graceful touch. The bold color palette
based around bright coral and chartreuse make the graphic floral designs really
pop. Combined with intricate detailing used throughout, the overall composition
has a unique painterly appearance. Blending tradition and modern sensibilities,
this captivating vintage Turkish Oushak runner would bring a sense of exuberance
