Each medallion takes the form of a stepped diamond-shaped lozenge, an ancient Anatolian device associated with protection and the feminine principle. Small rosettes punctuate their interiors, traditionally signifying beauty and the flourishing of life, while curled hooks extend from the horizontal and vertical axes as protective devices intended to repel harmful influences. Dark elongated cartouches occupy the cores of four medallions, three centered by radiant eight-pointed stars—emblems of spirituality, happiness, and cosmic order.
