rug features a large octofoil medallion with palmette pendants floating in the
center of an abrashed brick red field. The octagram, or eight-pointed star, is
often used as a medallion design in Heriz rugs. Sometimes referred to as the
“Seal of the Prophets,” the octagram symbolizes faith and spirituality. A
variety of geometric floral motifs surround the medallion in an elaborate
display of palmettes, serrated leaves, buds, blooms, open blossoms, and small
leaflets. Corner spandrels echo the designs of the medallion and field.
Delicate meander and guard borders and running water border-stripes flank a
stylized Herati main border. The midnight ink blue border and field accents
ground and give weight to the lovely pink, coral and soft sage colors of this
Heriz rug, while pops of ivory add further dimension and definition to the
