73845 Vintage Turkish
Oushak Rug, 03'10 x 06'02.

This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug
features a serrated center medallion with large palmette pendants on an abrashed
scarlet red field. Gray spandrels are dotted with diamonds, while two mauve
panels bookend the central design. Each panel features two mihrabs, or prayer
niches, within crab halos. Inside each mihrab is a fertility symbol, which also
appears between each mihrab. The fertility pattern combines the symbols of both
man and woman into one design, while the eye motif in the center is used to
protect the family against evil. Three main borders comprised of eight-pointed
stars and diamond motifs and are separated by secondary saw-tooth design guard
borders. The star designs represent happiness and fertility.

    tan, sand, ecru, beige, coffee, onyx, mustard, ocher, chartreuse, pistachio,
    gray, stone gray, greige and burgundy.
