The dragon design and symbolic colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly unique look. This Chinese bench runner features six medation squares and most likely was used to cover benches in a Chinese monastery. This is one single piece; however, they are often cut into individual squares and used as meditation mats. Each square depicts a five claw dragon enclosed with a Greek T-meander border. Dragons typically with five claws on each foot symbolized the emperor in many Chinese dynasties. Aside from the rich cultural symbolism, this piece is beautifully rendered in a marvelous color palette.
