These rugs blend traditional Navajo design elements with new motifs, incorporating a broader color palette thanks to commercially produced aniline dyes. They often feature commercially spun yarns obtained through trading posts, allowing for increased complexity and experimentation in weaving techniques. Influenced by traders, transitional rugs exhibit intricate patterns, varied shapes, and a higher level of weaving skill compared to earlier Navajo weavings, reflecting the adaptability and creativity of Navajo weavers amidst shifting cultural and economic landscapes. Today, they are prized for their historical significance and artistic merit.
