Description

50879 Rare Antique Turkish Wagireh Oushak Rug, 02'00 x 08'10.

This hand-knotted wool antique Turkish Oushak hallway runner is known as a sampler or wagireh Oushak sampler runner. This is from the Late 19th Century, circa 1880's. The antique wagireh rugs are rare and a minor masterpiece of Turkish weaving. Sampler rugs were made as a collection of all the pattern elements one would need to design and weave a carpet. In this particular antique sampler rug, the geometric pattern is animated with a rich pastel color palette. It features a center medallion extending rectilinear acanthus leaves flanked by latch-hook medallions on either side. It is enclosed with a meander border and subsidiary guard bands. Perfect for a hall or entry, hallway, corridor, living room, bedroom, bathroom, library, den, mudroom, study, office, sitting room, foyer and entryway. Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Traditional, Transitional, Eclectic, Modern, Contemporary, Industrial, Rustic, Lodge, Cabin, Cottage, Bungalow, Manor House, Victorian, Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, Tudor, Jacobean, Spanish Revival, Mediterranean, Mission, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, English Country, French Provincial, Bohemian, Boho Chic, Nomadic, Ethnic, Primitive and Tribal.
