Description

20977 Vintage Red Beni MGuild Moroccan Rug, 06'02 x 011'04.

This vintage Beni MGuild rug stands as a testament to the rich culture of Moroccan craftsmanship, meticulously handwoven by the skilled artisans of the Beni MGuild tribe—a distinct subset of the Berber ethnic community in Morocco. Celebrated for their intricate designs, these rugs are a vibrant canvas of geometric patterns, tribal symbols, and a lively color palette. Embracing the essence of Pacific Northwest Design, this vintage Beni MGuild Moroccan rug seamlessly marries Midcentury Modern aesthetics with nomadic charm.

The vivid details of the open ended lozenge and the warm, spicy hues woven into this piece evoke the landscapes of Morocco and the aromatic spices found in the bustling Souks of Marrakech. Against an abrashed red backdrop, an enchanting open ended diamond lozenge takes center stage. Outlining the central diamond are chevron bands, adorned with a myriad of protective motifs. These symbols carry profound meaning, signifying good luck. protection against the evil eye, spirituality, fertility and womanhood. It is enclosed with an Elibelinde border and rosette guard band. The Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the centre.

Beneath its seemingly simple exterior, this captivating vintage Moroccan rug reveals a world of cultural significance. Emanating Midcentury Modern design principles and infused with eclectic tribal elements, the plush pile of natural wool adds an extra layer of sustainability to its narrative. The Beni MGuild rug not only captures the spirit of nomadic charm, but also offers a cozy and comfortable ambiance, making it a harmonious addition to any space.
