A series of stepped lozenges form the main lattice, with the latticework itself composed of smaller diamonds creating an expansion effect. The stepped lozenges come together in a manner resembling hourglasses, a traditional reference to the female form. A crenelated fence guard band and cengal 'hook' guard band enclose the field, traditionally to ward of evil. The outside border is composed of diamond lozenges in alternating colors.
